There is a lot of misinformation about alkaline diets and alkaline state of the body, but this does not take away from the fact that focusing on ALKALINE foods is an important step to health.
What we are actually looking for is a balance of Alkaline and Acidic FORMING foods. This is because an overly alkaline state is just as bad as an acidic state. Now the body will never let itself get out of a very delicate balance of acid/alkaline because if it does, you die.
But it tries very hard to maintain that balance and many systems and processes are effected to try and maintain that balance.
The problem is that your typical western diet is acid forming. So many scientists discredit the alkaline concept because they dont understand the pH forming elements of food. And they also dont understand the coping mechanisms the body has in place and the effect on health.
A plant based diet is typically alkaline forming so by following a more plant based diet leads to the ideal biochemistry for the body to work properly as designed because it has a natural tendency towards acidity simply through the normal day to day metabolic processes.
Now this may sound a little complicated and thats because it is. All you need to understand is that one of the two fundamental biochemical requirements for health is your body to be balanced in terms of pH.
I will tell you the other biochemical state tomorrow. If you have these two biochemical states in place your body can work optimally and it can heal itself. And this is core to what we are trying to do. Every body process needs that correct pH to work correctly…..especially hormones.
Now because most people tend to lean towards acidity here are some tips to push it the other way. Dont go crazy with it because in time you will have the reverse but equally dangerous problem.
1. Green foods: Simplest and easiest way is to have a green juice everyday.
2. Green powders: wheatgrass, barley grass, alfalfa, spirulina and there are many more all assist the body towards alkalinity
3. Lemon juice and apple cider vinegar. They are acid in state however highly alkaline forming. Anyone that questions this simple take our urine pH before and after and you will clearly see.
4. Plant based diet
5. Avoid sugar, alcohol and processed foods.
6. Avoid animal proteins.
7. Dont overexercise
8. Minimise stress
An balanced pH assists with body hydration intracellularly, enzyme activity, hormone balance, immunity, mineral balance (especially relating to osteoporosis), inflammation and arthritic tendencies. All the key elements associated with chronic diseases.
So to summerise so far. 1. Work on building digestive function and a healthy GUT. 2. Focus on shifting your system to a balanced pH by having more plant based foods and correcting your system towards ALKALINE.
